Roundtable Discussions

During the social hour before the dinner, the student awardees and their guests and mentors have the opportunity to meet practicing professionals from academia, federal and state agencies, and industry who are working in a range of chemistry related areas.  The groups can discuss in an informal setting any topic of interest including employment outlook, green chemistry, description of the work, salary and advancement opportunities, hot research areas, future of the chemistry profession,  the drug industry, environmental issues, and teaching goals. In 2012, the number of roundtable discussion leaders was expanded to include active chemistry high school teachers along with university professors. While the event is not meant as a recruiting forum, several times students have made a contact through one of the discussion leaders that resulted in an employment opportunity.
